Sometimes it's better to be a penny than a dime
My officemate has spent the morning surfing sites looking for ideas for her engagement ring. Her dude took the approach of, I’m gonna make sure you like the ring so I’m going to let you tell me what sort of design you want and then I’ll go and have the jeweler put it together.
She stops at one website and says, “see at least this one you can tell the proportions of.”...
Too Soon?
One of my bosses called me in the other day to get my vote on her son’s Halloween costume idea. He wants to go as Steve Jobs. She wasn’t sure how she felt about it. Others had already voted yes. I suggested she reframe it as he was doing it as an homage. That made her happier.
She sent me a pic this morning of him in his turtleneck and jeans holding his iPhone.
My response: iApprove

Sometimes a pumpkin isn't just a pumpkin
I have to go to an all afternoon meeting in a few minutes but part of me will be thinking about two wonderful boys who are very talented and created some very wonderful pumpkins and I’ll be smiling.
If the meeting starts sucking out my soul I may also be sobbing a bit inside, but mostly smiling. :)

Star Trek Voyager Scripts
reb-ellious:
Way back in 1999 I wrote and submitted a couple of Star Trek Voyager scripts which Paramount Studios liked so much that they invited me out to pitch other ideas to them. Although they never bought any of my work, I’m convinced that they borrowed a concept from one of my scripts. I can never prove it, but I choose to believe I had some influence over Star Trek history.

miscellaneous portmanteaux trois
ragbag:
every 400 days for the rest of my life, i plan to release a new batch of coined portmanteau words into the wild and see if any of them stick. 400 days ago, i told you about bar-b-coup and nonline which have since risen to #451 and #1,033 on the mla’s list of hot new words to watch out for™. 800 days ago, i told you about farticle and gratuitesque and now these two words alone comprise...
Things I would never put in writing
I got a call from a trainer in the IT department just before lunch. She asked me how to do something regarding a mail merge and remoted into my PC to watch me do it while we were on the phone. I showed her, explained a workaround if this technique didn’t work for this particular situation since I don’t have access to the original files and pointed her to an additional resource within...

NOLAGrrlNYC asked yesterday how we were doing with our 11 things we wanted to achieve in 2011 that we wrote back in January. She asked how we were doing on accomplishing them and if we would put the same things on the list if we wrote it today.
I haven’t done very good on my list. Some of them…
I think the list was a useful activity in terms of stopping in that...
