We went on the Vertical Tour at St John the Divine this weekend which meant that we climbed the equivalent of twelve flights of stairs and stood on the bishop’s walk and one of the buttresses and eventually even up into the space between the top of the vault and the roof of the cathedral and then out onto a portion of the roof overlooking Manhattan.
This is an amazing structure and they have great tours there as well as art exhibits and concerts. I know it’s a church but I always feel more like I’m in a cultural center than a strictly religious institution. The last time I took a tour of the crypt. Next time, who knows. They are great about adding new tours and each one has been well worth it.
