The term “power lunch” didn’t appear until the 1970s but the idea of special places for special people to dine was embraced by New York for many decades prior to that. The Four Seasons, one of Joe Baum’s creations. The New York Times once compared the Four Seasons culture to that of high school, remarking that “Every table was the cool table.” The Round Table where Dorothy Parker dined. And the caricatures of celebrities that graced the walls of Sardi’s. All are reminders of the ladies and gentlemen who lunch. Lunch Hour NYC exhibit at The New York Public Library through February 17, 2013.
